Otter Valley Poultry prefer a slow growing strain of Hubbard chicken, which are more suited to Organic Free Range rearing practices giving them a distinctive texture with a slightly gamier flavour to the leg and a significantly sturdier bone structure.

Otter Valley Organic chicken are reared on four organic farms across Devon, where they can roam and forage for red clover and insects with certified organic feed as a supplement.
Their Organic Certification comes from the Soil Association who have the most stringent organic standards in the world for rearing poultry for the table. Otter Valley Poultry have their own slaughter and processing plant which is also certified organic by the Soil Association.
This means that the Organic chickens are slaughtered on site and do not have to travel to a slaughterhouse with the stress that is associated with that.

Organic and Free Range Duck, Geese & Turkey


Otter Valley Organic ducklings come from organic Pekin strain parents bred specifically for the table.
In their custom built brooder for 14-17 days, Otter Valley organic ducks stay warm and cosy until they are ready to forage outside and enjoy their own spectacular views over the Turkeys, Geese and across the mouth of the Exe to the Pebble Bed Heaths beyond.


The Norfolk goslings arrive on the farm annually in June as day olds. They are raised indoors until about 4 weeks old when they are let outside to graze in large grassland paddocks. The geese are let out every morning at dawn & then shut up again at dusk, to protect them from predators.
The geese are also fed a specially prepared ration which helps to produce a succulent, tender bird for the table.
All the geese are prepared on the farm ready for the oven. They are dry plucked & hung for 7-10 days in the cold rooms to help the meat mature. They are then packed with the giblets ready for delivery.

Otter Valley Organic Chicken breast fillets (skinless) are plump and full of flavour, not water! This is because they’re slow growing birds which a given longer to mature and enrich the chicken’s flavour.
